Enhance Service to Seafarers • Develop The New Generation • Engage the Community in Maritime Activities
Since 1946, Seafarers Ministry of the Golden Gate and The International Maritime Center have provided quality care and support directly to seafarers Today, we are creating new programs and expanding our reach in response to the changing needs of seafarers and emerging opportunities in the maritime world.
With our Ship Visit and Welcome Team we will visit every ship that docks in the Port of Oakland within eight hours of arrival, increasing the number of seafarers that we visit aboard ship, provide transportation for and host at the Maritime Center to more than ever before! Crew welfare makes for a safer, more stable and efficient maritime sector.
Also diverse residents from across the region joining in a common effort to serve seafarers builds the spirit of unity and strengthens civic pride throughout the Bay Area.
Every time I get to go shore I feel so relaxed, stress-free for a little time. Sometimes I try to explore, seeing more people, places, and the culture as well in that country.

Through the Maritime Welfare Academy we provide hands on-learning, mentoring, networking, and internship opportunities in essential maritime subjects to a new generation of young people to explore and prepare for emerging maritime career positions. We especially encourage young people of color and women to take advantage of these opportunities.
We are well-equipped to make a difference in the maritime industry and the community and promote maritime opportunities to a new generation.
