THE CHRISTMAS AT SEA SHIP WELCOME & VISIT FORCE
Established by the United Nations in 1978, World Maritime Day is meant to recognize the importance of the maritime industry and its essential role in the world.
The 2023 theme, MARPOL at 50 – Our Commitment Goes On, spotlights the fifty-year anniversary of the adoption of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL). MARPOL is the main international convention covering prevention of pollution of the marine environment by ships from operational or accidental causes.
Our Bay Area maritime industry has embraced MARPOL and the spirit of World Maritime Day through many innovations and programs that improve the maritime environment, maritime safety and security, and international shipping.
As a maritime welfare organization and a proud member of the Bay Area maritime community, Seafarers Ministry of the Golden Gate at the International Maritime Center, aims to do our part to raise awareness about the multiple contributions the shipping industry makes in the Bay Area and places all over the globe.
